Severn Bore – Gloucester
The Severn Bore was happening this weekend, so we decided to go and watch, along with the crazy surfers who choose to get in there and surf the wave.
We stopped at a place in Elmore Gloucester, a public footpath that runs through a property where the owners allow people to park (for a small fee) and spectate on their land. We had a great view from on top of the owners docked boat.
The river Severn is famous for its Bore and strong current and lots of surfers come along to take on the wave. This is a natural phenomenon where the water is drawn up stream and then all of a sudden the tide changes and the water flows back down stream creating a tidal wave. This is a great sight to see, especially on a sunny day.
We decided to go for a pub lunch after, and as we had Millie with us, it had to be dog friendly of course. We ended up on the other side of Gloucester at the Royal George in an area called Birdlip. The Royal George is surrounded by Cotswold stone buildings, lovely garden and amazing views over the Cotswolds.
This place is perfect for dogs, the bar is very welcoming for people and dogs and the garden is ideal in the summer for you and your furry friend. There is also a large amount of land at the back of the car park where dogs can stretch their legs, this is where Millie likes to chase her ball.
